Zipp! Along to the Duchess for Your Wedding

A unique new service is being offered to couples by the company presenting the award-winning West End musical ZIPP! 100 musicals for less than the price of one: on stage blessings.

It is the brainchild of Gyles Brandreth, author and star of ZIPP!, the show that celebrates a century of musical theatre and promises the audience 'one hundred musicals in 90 minutes or your money back'.

As an MP, Gyles Brandreth - who celebrates his own thirtieth wedding anniversary in June - introduced a Private Member's Bill that became the 1994 Marriage Act enabling weddings to take place in venues other than register offices. Thanks to this, civil weddings can now be held in licensed theatres. Brandreth - star of Zipp! currently at The Duchess Theatre in the West End - is offering this special opportunity to brides and grooms, and couples of every kind, enabling them to have a religious blessing on stage, as part of the show. As an optional extra, the lucky couples can also have Brandreth - in a multiplicity of guises - in attendance either as a best man or a bridesmaid.

Says Brandreth: 'A wedding should be a great celebration and what better way to celebrate your marriage than by inviting your friends and family to witness your blessing on stage in the West End?

'In Zipp! we zip through 100 musicals in ninety minutes. At the end of the matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and on Saturday mornings by special arrangement, couples will be able to have a glamorous on stage blessing - with appropriate songs from the shows of their own choosing. Whether they want music by Abba or Cole Porter, or a selection from Bless the Bride or I Do! I Do!, is up to them.'

Couples can arrange for their own vicar, priest or rabbi to perform the blessing or the Zipp! Company will make the arrangements for them.

According to Brandreth: 'There were 2347 musicals written in the twentieth century. Every single one has a love song. Musical theatre is a celebration of love and what better way to celebrate your own relationship than centre stage in the West End with great show tunes playing and your family and friends giving you a standing ovation.'
