Fringe 2008 Reviews (112)Clive James: In Conversation Someone as well versed in the art of conversation as Clive James rarely needs any praise for his work and this show went to prove that he is an absolute master of the art of interview. James is as easygoing and relaxed as anyone could be in front of a sellout crowd, and yet managed to include the audience in the intimate and intelligent discussions he holds with his subjects. On this occasion the novelist Alan Sillitoe was the man of the hour, and was prompted through a fascinating tour of his life and work. The only downside of this was the relative brevity of the entire event and the general lack of James input into the discussion, although this is understandable with a mine of such information to be picked at. In any event James was on hand to offer witty and playful jibes and occasional comments which served only to add to the enjoyment. A thoroughly entertaining event. Graeme Strachan
