Me in a Dress - Tuesday 13 July, 2010

This last week has been pretty tough. The set was brought in and so a lot of time was spent getting to grips with it. It's a wonderful set - a huge metal cube with large cardboard boxes to be used as tables/chairs...etc. The back part of the cube is a blackboard which also serves another purpose that I won't reveal here. You'll need to come and see the show to find that out. I promise it's worth finding out!

We did have some people come and see the show on Tuesday, our last evening in London before the start of the tour. We had very quietly advertised an open dress rehearsal for anyone interested at our rehearsal rooms on Finchley Road and a handful of people had shown up.

It was more nerve wracking than I'd imagined it would be. Simply having people other than those involved with the show present suddenly brought home the fact that this was it: no more rehearsals, no more trying things out in a safe environment. From now on, we would have an audience to face. Not that the show isn't ready for an audience. The run wasn't too bad. Perhaps a little slow, a little unsure, but not bad. Certainly the small assembled audience seemed to enjoy it. Granted they were mostly friends and family, but still, to all intents and purposes, this show is ready to be taken on the road!

That evening, I packed my rucksack. I tried taking as few things as possible. There is a Universal Law of Rucksack which states that no matter how little you pack, you will always a) fill the bag until it bulges and b) it will be too heavy to lift. Maybe I shouldn't have taken so much toilet paper...

Christopher in a dress!

Finally, for those of you who have spent the entire time reading the above wondering when the bit about me being in a dress is going to come up, you've kind of missed the point. If you still don't know what I'm talking about and don't want to be disappointed, then please see the picture on the right. It was taken in a 2004 production of Cinderella and yes, I am aware that I look incredibly hot. Never say I don't please my readers!
