Charlie Montague

The new Charlie Montague Mystery takes some time to warm up but, once it reaches top gear, provides a good measure of laughter.

Once again, Tom Taylor is not too proud to poke fun at himself and his chosen genre, which he ruthlessly deconstructs at the same time as playing multiple parts.

This mystery is set in a modern art gallery exhibiting The Garden, a simple abstract sculpture by Robin “Two Birds” Nightingale, soon to be known as the deceased.

As Charlie discovers during his investigations, there is more to the art icon than meets the eye, leading to questions about diamond robbery and the identity of the artist’s murderer.

The Man with the Twisted Hip isn’t yet as polished as its predecessor but may well mature with age. Even so, it is already well worth catching.
