Baba Brinkman - The Rap Guide to Religion
Soho Playhouse Inc / Rap Guide Media
From 30 July 2014 to 25 August 2014
Review by Philip Fisher
Baba Brinkman is an Edinburgh phenomenon, challenging those that purchase tickets to think.
The expectations from a North American rapper are probably conditioned by loudmouths who threaten and spend time in prison.
However, the Canadian with a post-graduate degree spends this hour in delivering messages that combine psychology and philosophy.
You would have to say that he does not wear his learning and research very lightly, were it not for the fact that his means of preaching to the generally unconverted is via the medium of rap.
The super-intelligent rapper proclaims himself an atheist but tries to sell the proposition that religions thrive on evolution, providing statistics to support the case.
There is much more where that came from, exploring the worlds of rapping and faith from numerous angles, very effectively combining Baba Brinkman’s unique brand of comedy and dissemination of fascinating data.
