Leading Manchester Performing Arts School Opens New Centre

Dateline: 14th September, 2004

Mainstream Theatre Arts, one of the north west's leading performing arts schools and theatre companies, is to open a new Saturday school in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

The new centre will open on Saturday 9th October 2004 at Lacey Green Primary School, Barlow Road, Lacey Green, Wilmslow, Cheshire. There will be a full programme of performing arts classes similar to the ones offered at MTA's Denton centre to suit many different ages, abilities and tastes, including:

  • dance classes for ages 4 years and upwards in ballet, tap, modern pop and jazz;
  • musical theatre classes for ages 6 to 16 years incorporating drama, groups singing and dance.

Other classes and training courses are already being planned for the future.

MTA is holding two open days at Lacey Green Primary School on Saturday 25th September and Saturday 2nd October. Anyone interested in joining the classes can come along, meet the tutors, find out more about what is on offer and enrol for classes.

Mainstream Theatre Arts has been providing high quality performing arts education since it was established in Tameside in 1981 and has gained an enviable reputation for its various theatre-related activities. Apart from teaching classes in Denton and at the new Wilmslow centre, MTA's teachers are in great demand for curricular classes and after-school activities in schools and colleges around Greater Manchester. MTA's theatre-in-education company takes professional actor-teachers into primary and secondary schools in the region to perform plays and lead workshops on various important issues for thousands of schoolchildren every year.

Barry Carr, co-founder of MTA, said, 'everyone at the company is excited about the opening of this new school. We endeavour to bring opportunities to young people to enjoy and train in the performing arts wherever we can and to deliver high-quality tuition at affordable prices. This new school meets our philosophy and will provide a major new platform to our outreach programme.'
