Fox Plays UK

Fox Plays UK is the British branch of the parent company Fox Plays of Australia. It has a wide selection of one and two act plays and musicals for school and youth groups. There are, in fact, seven plays and twenty musicals, and they are suitable for most age groups.

The plays are probably best suited to Year 8 and above, whereas the musicals can be performed by children of most ages. As David Waters, the UK representative says, if a school can do Buggsy or Joseph, it can do one of Cenarth Fox's plays.

The subject matter of all the shows is relevant to the lives of the performers.

Fox Plays also has a range of very short Pennyweight Plays and Mini-Musicals, which run for 5-10 minutes, and so can be rehearsed and performed in the space of one or two lessons. They are also royalty-free, which is a major plus!

Also available are four royalty-free Christmas shows which run for about thirty minutes each.

These are quite unusual plays, different from the run-of-the-mill shows for kids. In This Is Your Captain Speaking, for instance, the action takes place in an airport check-in (at the start) and on an aircraft (the main part of the play). The audience are the passengers and sit in aircraft-style seating. It is also a dinner-theatre piece and the meal is served as on an aircraft.

Rat Race, however, is about rats - or are they humans? - and it takes place in a pile of rubbish at the end of an alley, whilst Suburban Circus is just that, a circus.

There are production notes with each play and, for musicals, a free set of lyrics for the chorus. Audio and/or video tapes and production photographs may also be available. For musicals there are band parts for hire and a stereo tape with side A suitable for rehearsals and teaching the songs, and side B a full performance tape.

There are agents for Britain and Europe, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Interested parties from elsewhere in the world should contact the Australian address:
