This is supposed to be one of the top British Theatre sites on the Web, so why is it so basic in design? Why are there so few graphics? Where's the Flash? What? no video or sound? What about the DHTML, Java?

Simple! It's the information which matters, both the quality and the ease of getting to it, not the bells and whistles, the bandwidth-guzzling decoration. I can research and write a dozen news stories in the time it would take me to create one Flash animation.

And do you really want to wait for ages before you can read what's here? In your shoes, I certainly wouldn't. That's why I've tried to arrange things so that, in ideal conditions, every page will download in under ten seconds. It won't always happen, of course - we all know that www stands for World Wide Wait - but I hope that you won't find many sites faster at delivering the info you want.

I'll keep tinkering with the design, too, trying to sharpen things up and make the site easier to use. But the main aim is to deliver the required information as quickly as possible. After all, beauty is only skin-deep, isn't it? (Those who have seen my photo will no doubt now be muttering, "Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?")
