Arts Theatre from 3rd – 21st April

The Pool - City of Culture?, a contemporary verse drama set in Liverpool, won universal acclaim and a Scotsman Fringe First award for new writing at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival.

Devised and performed by James Brough and Helen Elizabeth, the new writers in residence at The Arts, The Pool - City of Culture? is a two handed drama written in rhyme and prose, following a day in the life of David and Tina.

David is a cockney chancer, full of swagger and mischief, who has drunkenly taken the train to Liverpool and finds himself stranded there after being robbed. Tina, a spiky but soft-hearted scouser, comes to his aid. They share a day of secrets and lies, trouble and strife, intrigue and romance, dancing, a fight... Will they or won’t they? Maybe they might.
