Rose Bruford Distance Learning

Rose Bruford College, a college of Higher Education within the British University Sector, has an unequalled reputation in providing a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in theatre and related arts. Its Distance Learning courses enable it to offer some of the best examples of its high quality work to people wherever they live. Our BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies and MA in Theatre and Performance Studies are unique; there are no comparable distance learning programmes available elsewhere in the world. Each course provides a flexible and affordable pathway to study while allowing students to continue with career and family commitments.

At both levels the programmes offer a range of modules, including a practice-based modules, all written and taught be experts in their respective fields. Students study a range of topics including acting, directing, design, theatre policy, modern dramatists and contextual studies as well as developing skills in critical analysis of theatre in context. Both programmes provide a highly supportive learning environment and expert help.

The Theatre Studies programme allows students to work towards a range of awards from HE Certificate, HE Diploma, Ordinary Degree and BA (Hons) Degree in Theatre Studies. There are no formal entry requirements and students with prior learning or experience can apply for accreditation. The MA programme provides study at post-graduate level with awards at Certificate, Diploma and Master Degree level.

We recruit internationally and currently attract students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, including teachers, lecturers, theatre practitioners and those who simply love the theatre and wish to increase their knowledge. These degrees are validated by the University of Manchester, the programmes are seen by many employers as a valuable means of professional development.

Founded in 1950 and now part of the University Sector, Rose Bruford College pioneered the first vocational degree in Acting in 1976. It now offers, to students worldwide, full-time degrees in all aspects of professional theatre, in European and American Theatre Arts and in music and digital technology, as well as a range of distance learning BA and MA programmes in theatre and opera. The College is one of the largest centres of theatre training and education in the UK and has an international reputation for excellence in theatre training. In establishing its Distance Learning degrees in 1996 the College broke new ground in the delivery of performance-based programmes to students worldwide.
