Romeo and Juliet
Our next production will be an open air Romeo and Juliet
from July 13 to 24 in Rowntree Park.
We have come to an agreement with the City of York council’s education and leisure services with the support of York at Large to put on the play in the old bandstand area which has been converted into an events space.
And we have already appointed a director. Sarah Punshon, assistant director at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, was recommended by her boss Ian Brown.
Sarah will hold workshops/auditions at St Luke’s Church Hall, Burton Stone
Lane, on the Saturdays of March 19 (before university breaks up).
and April 9. Workshops both mornings from 10-12 then auditions
1-5pm
Rehearsals for cast and crew will be held at the same venue on
Sundays from 2 to 6pm, Monday and Tuesdays 8-10.30 from Sunday April 17
We are also trying to organise some workshops in schools and community centres.
The park, one of only thirteen places in Yorkshire to hold the
Civic Trust Green Flag Award for park excellence for 2005, has
undergone a £1.7 million heritage lottery funded refurbishment,
restoring it to its original splendour.
Romeo and Juliet will be held in the events area which
includes a stage area with power, lighting and a grass mound auditorium.
The council will provide seating and it is hoped the park cafe will provide some refreshments although the audience can bring along a picnic, their own chairs or rugs and warm and waterproof clothing.
