Dennis Herdman, Mitesh Soni and Thom Tuck will be the cast of a new production of Sean Foley’s The Play What I Wrote—Foley’s first show since taking over as artistic director of Birmingham REP.

Celebrating 20 years since its première, The Play What I Wrote follows Sir Kenneth Branagh’s original production in celebrating “Britain’s finest and funniest ever double act” Morecambe and Wise.

Like the original Morecambe and Wise shows, there is a play within a play and each show will feature a special mystery guest. Previous guests have included Ralph Fiennes, Dawn French, Ewan McGregor, Glenn Close, Daniel Radcliffe, Kylie Minogue and Sting.

Foley, who co-wrote and acted in the play in the West End and on Broadway, said, “I’m thrilled finally to be able to bring this hugely successful comedy to Birmingham audiences and can’t wait for this wonderfully talented new cast, as well as a whole new set of amazing guest stars, to make people laugh this Christmas.”

Designer is Alice Power, lighting designer is Tim Mitchell and sound designer is Clive Meldrum. Music is by Steve Parry and the choreographer is Ian West.

The Play What I Wrote will run at the REP from Saturday 27 November until Saturday 1 January 2022.
