Young people will get the chance to gain valuable training with Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre, with the help of a £10,000 grant from national education charity, the Ernest Cook Trust.

The award is to the theatre’s Young Company scheme, which offers year-long places to 100 youngsters aged 14 to 21 to train as performers, writers, design technicians and in marketing and communications.

The Ernest Cook Trust owns and manages 22,000 acres of landed estates across five English counties and helps children to learn from the land through a range of educational programmes. Its Trustees also distribute £1.8m a year in educational grants to benefit children and young people.
