Simon Naylor, Creative Director of 53two is establishing the PMA Grant in memory of Phil Michael Aizlewood, who took his own life in 2024 but whom he has described as "a remarkable person and a phenomenal actor whose passing sent shockwaves through his community".
A group of Phil's friends and colleagues will donate a small amount annually to a fund that can be split over several causes, overseen by a steering committee, who will compile a shortlist of nominations from donors. The funds can not be used to produce a show or film unless It contributes directly to mental health awareness.
Each nomination can be an arts-based project that contributes towards raising awareness of mental health or improving the wellbeing of those suffering from poor mental health, drama school expenses, underrepresented individuals and community groups that serve them and mental health and personal development programmes that use the arts as a tool for engagement.
The organisers have said, "through the PMA Grant, we seek to transform the devastating loss of Phil into a positive and lasting impact on the arts community and those struggling with mental health challenges. By supporting individuals and groups in these fields, we hope to create a meaningful legacy that honours Phil’s life and passion."
