Coping with dementia can be seen from a different angle in a new aerial drama by an EastEnders scriptwriter staged at The Dukes in Lancaster, March 27-28.

Mind Walking explores what happens when an ageing mind can no longer hide its deepest secrets and is written by Tanika Gupta.

It focuses on Bobby who was born in Bombay in the forties but has spent all his adult life in Britain. However, when he develops Alzheimers, he reverts back to the language he spoke as a boy.

But Mind Walking is more than an extraordinary story, it also features performances high above The Round stage.

BandBazi Theatre, which presents the show, has gained national and international status for using aerial and theatre skills to create productions which respond imaginatively to contemporary issues including mental health and cultural identity.

Anyone attending the performance on March 27 can find out more at the post show talkback which is free to ticket holders.

And there’s a free two-hour interactive workshop at 11AM on March 28 with the director, choreographer and aerial technician. Places are free to show ticketholders aged 11 plus but must be booked in advance.

Mind Walking is the latest in a series of events organised by The Dukes supported by Age UK Lancashire to offer older people and their families increased access to the arts.
