Teenagers will be taking over The Dukes in Lancaster for two days this month.

The End of Term Takeover will see young people programming and running the Lancaster venue’s activities for the first time on July 18-19.

The event has been organised by the newly-formed Dukes Youth Forum and will help celebrate the start of the school summer holidays.

The Takeover kicks off on Friday, July 18 with monologues in The Dukes gallery from 4 to 6PM followed by an open mic music session until 8PM. The evening ends with Funny Friday Night when there’s comedy on the entertainment menu until 10PM.

The fun starts early on Saturday, July 19 with elements of hip hop, DJ mixing, graffiti art and spoken word workshops from 11AM to 3PM.

The afternoon also offers opportunities to hang out in The Dukes Café Bar for food, fun and maybe some unexpected performances between 2 to 4PM.

Spot a future playwright with some dramatic goings-on from 4 to 6PM followed by the highlight of the Takeover at 6PM: Roar-A-Long The Lion King, a Disney classic with sing-a-long subtitles.

The event ends with a live music jam from 8 to 10PM at The Dukes Centre for Creative Learning (formerly known as DT3).
