Award-winning Theatre Absolute is to clock up a first: a project created in Coventry’s Shop Front Theatre is to be taken on a national tour.

The company set up its 100 project to commemorate the centenary of World War I. The final commission, a triptych of plays by Steve Waters called Far From the Sea, premières at the Shop Front Theatre before touring to Hull, Leicester, Birmingham and Exeter.

Waters says, “Being originally from Coventry, I’m keen to write something that engages with the complex history of the city within the last century, the ebbs and flow of industry and labour, the complexity of the population, the traces of traumatic history.”

Far From the Sea is told through the eyes of a contemporary Polish woman, an affluent early '90s family and a bombastic alderman of a 1950s local authority.

It runs at the Shop Front Theatre, a former fish-and-chip restaurant, from Tuesday until Saturday, 17 to 21 June.
