Coventry’s Albany Theatre is offering NHS workers up to 400 free tickets to a gala night showing of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol on Thursday 9 December.
David Meredith, chair of the Albany Theatre Trust, said, “at the start of 2020 we appointed our first chief executive and artistic director Kevin Shaw, but his first task was to close the theatre because of the pandemic.
“This is his long-awaited debut production for the Albany, so rather than hosting a traditional press night we’re celebrating by inviting hundreds of health care workers to this gala as a big thank-you for what they’ve done for us all.”
Shaw added, “last year we were urged to clap the NHS heroes. Now some people are blaming them for failures that are nothing to do with COVID but are the result of years of funding cuts. Inviting them to come and see Scrooge seems ironically appropriate.
“The Albany’s vision is to promote wellbeing through arts for life, so who better to invite than those who support us with such dedication?”
Anyone with an NHS staff number can apply for tickets by e-mailing [email protected].
A Christmas Carol will run from Saturday 4 until Sunday 26 December.
