Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic is preparing for the final celebrations of its 60th anniversary year: the theatre’s festive show Alice in Wonderland.

Artistic director Theresa Heskins said, “I’m so happy to be bringing our version of Alice in Wonderland to the New Vic stage. It feels extra special to be sharing this show as the finale to our 60th anniversary year of theatre-making here in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.

“We’ve made it especially for the New Vic, with local people and theatre-in-the-round very much in mind. Our multi-talented cast will be acting, singing, dancing, playing instruments and performing some dazzling illusions that will truly be magical. We can’t wait to welcome audiences to see it.”

Danielle Bird who played Rajnhildre the Goblin Queen in Beauty and the Beast at the New Vic in 2021 and Michael Hugo who was in Neil Baldwin and Malcolm Clarke’s Marvellous at the theatre earlier in 2022 will share the role of the Mad Hatter and the chorus.

They will be joined by Lucinda Freeburn as the dormouse and Rose, Victoria Brazier as the White Queen and Mam, Matthew Ganley as Dodger, the White King and the Mad March Hare and Stasha Dukic as the Cheshire Cat. All will share the role of the chorus.

Eleanor Fransch will make her professional debut as Alice. Making their New Vic debuts are Jimmy Chambers as Tweedledum, Angelina Chudi as Tweedledee, Purvi Parmar as the Red Queen, Peter Watts as the Great Blanco and the White Rabbit, Kyle Potter and Madeleine Wilshire. New Vic Youth Theatre alumna Katie Cannon completes the cast.

Alice in Wonderland will run from Friday 18 November until Saturday 28 January 2023.
