"Funny, heart-warming show": Ladies' Day

Amanda Whittington has updated her 2005 play Ladies’ Day which is to be co-produced by Staffordshire’s New Vic and Bolton’s Octagon Theatre in spring 2023.

Ladies’ Day charts the story of four women who swap their typical working day at a fish factory for the front row at the races.

New Vic artistic director Theresa Heskins said, “Amanda has kept the story in its specific time and place but approached it through the lens of the 2020s. It’s fascinating to see the results of that, including attitudes to the Royal family, and to have our own recent history reflected back to us. The original engaging, witty piece of work about ordinary lives has become an even richer piece of drama.”

Ladies’ Day features Tanya-Loretta Dee as Jan, Annie Kirkman as Shelley, Jo Patmore as Linda and Kate Wood as Pearl. Gareth Cassidy will play the six male roles.

Marieke Audsley who directs said, “this is such a funny, heart-warming show which tells the story of four fabulous friends. I very much hope that audiences will love meeting and being entertained by these brilliant women.”

Designer is Jessica Curtis, lighting designer is Jessie Addinall and sound designer is Damian Coldwell. Sundeep Saini is movement director.

Ladies’ Day can be seen at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme from Friday 3 until Saturday 25 February and Octagon Theatre, Bolton from Wednesday 8 March until Saturday 1 April.
