Sixteen Midlands artists will present a variety of work in the 2024 Amplify Festival which will run over six days rather than the usual four in Nottingham.
Staged by Nottingham Playhouse, the Amplify Festival, which is in its sixth year, will feature new work, work-in-progress and scratch productions.
Artist development producer Beccy D’Souza said, “this year’s festival provides a real opportunity for audiences to invest in local artists and their work. Some artists are making new work with limited resources and in many cases will be performing it for the first time. They’re keen to gauge audiences’ responses and receive feedback to inform their next stages of development.”
Playhouse artistic director Adam Penford added, “Amplify Festival is going from strength to strength. Giving a platform to local emerging theatre makers to showcase their work to the public and other artists is a vital part of why Nottingham Playhouse exists. In addition to that, we all get to experience some really new and exciting work in its infancy and that is a real privilege.”
One of the highlights is expected to be Laura Goulden’s Exit Pursued by DWP, a work in progress which dissects how non-disabled people have claimed 99% of Shakespeare’s characters. It will be staged on Thursday 24 October at 8:15PM.
I Remember Everything by Linh Huynh is a “hilarious and heartfelt journey through modern interracial dating, cultural acceptance and the messy process of breaking cycles”. It will be performed on Friday 25 October.
Some of the shows will feature as part of the Queer Up Duck! Festival for LGBTQ+ artists and audiences. There will also be shows for children and their families.
Amplify will run from Monday 21 until Saturday 26 October. The full programme is available at the Nottingham Playhouse web site.
