The inaugural Nowt Part Of modern drama festival, held at the John Cooper Clarke Theatre in the Black Lion, Salford, has been heralded a great success.

Organiser Mike Francis Carvalho says: “There was a tremendous amount of support and press coverage. The weekend shows brought some full houses and the new venture covered its costs as well as entertaining some new faces from as far afield as tourists from Australia.

"The Nowt Part Of ethos is one of showcasing small-cast, original drama and it provided a positive balance to what else was available in the City during the festival season”.

Six independent north west companies provided a varied week-long programme with everything from the antics of The Harpington Toad Fanciers Social to the hospital hostage scenario of Face Value.

The festival also featured a number of solo shows which provided a special focus on the power and intimacy of small-cast theatre. Plans are already in place for the future on a biennial basis.
