April to August in South Shields

The Customs House in South Shields has announced its programme from April to August, 2013, a mixture of drama, music, dance and comedy.

  • At 7pm on 29th April SunFest 2013, in which the University of Sunderland’s Faculty of Arts, Design and Media takes over the theatre, launches and runs until 31st May. It is preceded by Lionel Bart’s Blitz (22nd and 23rd April), performed as part of the University’s Live Project.
  • At 8.30 on 29th Appetite Dance presents a double bill, Letter to My Father / CRUSH.
  • From 14th to 16th May Gilded Balloon presents Murder Marple and Me, written by South Shields playwright Philip Meeks.
  • Ion Productions’ Charley’s Aunt runs from 5th to 8th June.
  • On 17th and 18th June Less is MORE Productions presents a new comedy, Miss Crispy.
  • On 21st June the Reduced Shakespeare Company returns with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) {revised}.
  • North Tyneside-based Farne Productions presents Company by Dick Curran on 24th and 25th June.
  • From 4th to 6th July Fresh Glory Productions brings the Watermill Theatre production of Some Like It Hotter to the venue.
  • From 26th to 28th July the Customs House’s new outdoor venue, the Harton Quay’s Amphitheatre (opposite the main building), opens with the 2013 community production, I (heart) ST, a play about South Tyneside’s past, present and future, written and directed by the BTG’s Peter Lathan.
  • On 9th August Heartbreak Productions brings its Dracula to the Amphitheatre.
  • Cuddy and His Mates, presented by Jack Drum Arts, Mad Alice Theatre Company and Queen’s Hall Arts, comes to the Amphitheatre at 2pm on 10th August.

This year’s panto will be Cinderella and will run from 28th November, 2013, to 5th January, 2014.
