Archbishop Gives Mysteries his Blessing

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, on Noah's ArkThe Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has visited the set of the York Mystery Plays prior to the production's opening on 8th August (previews from 2nd). He was joined by Ferdinand Kingsley who takes the role of God and Jesus.

Also in the cast is Coronation Street villain Graeme Hawley as The Devil. They will be joined by over 1,700 local volunteers comprising the two casts of community ensemble, musicians, choir and crew.

The medieval cycle of plays, which has been performed by the people of York for 800 years, is adapted by Mike Kenny and directed by& Damian Cruden and will be performed in a 1,400 seater, covered auditorium which has been built into St Mary's Abbey in the York Museum Gardens.

The production runs from 2nd to 27th August.
