Several arts organisations in Derby have joined forces with UK children’s charity Barnardo’s to introduce Plus One—A Gift to Inspire.

This will provide the opportunity for children in care to experience live performance and workshops.

Plus One aims to spark an interest in the arts and cultural scene in Derby. For some young people, it will be the first time they will experience opportunities of this kind with their foster family or carers.

The Mighty Creatives, a charity working across the East Midlands to champion young people’s creativity and innovation, has provided initial funding.

Organisations involved include Derby Theatre, Déda, Derby LIVE, the Quad arts centre, Sinfonia Viva, the University of Derby, Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council and Derby museums.

Caroline Barth, Plus One co-ordinator and head of learning at Derby Theatre, said, “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity to children and young people in care.

“We hope that the visit to our venues will be the start of a wonderful relationship these young people and their foster families and carers may forge with the arts.”

Every ticket donated through Plus One will go to children in care and their carers, whether they are fostered or in children’s homes.

When booking tickets for Derby Theatre, Déda, Derby LIVE, Quad or Sinfonia Viva, customers will be given the opportunity to donate to Plus One.
