A trip to Auschwitz has inspired a group of sixth formers from Buxton Community School to create a new drama about the experiences of six young Jews hiding in the cellar of a family friend as they seek refuge from the Nazis.
Lilly Posnett, co-author of Measuring the Shadows, received a nomination for the Fringe’s new writing award last year for her Fringe debut The Last Night of Olivia Delaware.
She is an ambassador for the Holocaust Educational Trust and wrote the drama with Freya Palmer after the pair visited Auschwitz last year.
Says Lilly, “One of the aims of the Holocaust Educational Trust is to encourage new generations to see the individual stories behind shocking figures and statistics.
“With Measuring the Shadows we wanted to show the crippling effects of persecution on young people whose lives were stifled by the oppression of the Nazi regime.”
Measuring the Shadows will be performed by new company On My Mind in the drama studio of Buxton Community School on Thursday (4 July) at 7:30PM.
