Newcastle’s Northern Stage has announced its autumn 2013 season, the first under its new director Lorne Campbell. The season includes two in-house productions, two co-productions and a number of visiting shows.
The two in-house productions are the regular Christmas shows. This year the under-6s will be treated to Tallest Tales from the Furthest Forest by Susan Mulholland who has written these shows for some years now.
There is a magical forest, far from everywhere, where stories come from. There are stories everywhere. Dangling from the trees, whispered by the leaves, giggled at by the grass. Stories about why things are the way they are, stories about what happens when you’re nice (and naughty) and why you should never, ever trust a witch.
Tallest Tales from the Furthest Forest runs from 16th November to 4th January.
For the over-7s there is Lorne Campbell’s first production, Dark Woods, Deep Snow. A Grimm Tale for Christmas, which runs from 2nd to 28th December.
At the darkest time, on the longest night, as the real winter starts to close in, something is happening. In the Extremely Secret House in the Woods a rag-tag band of superheroic outcasts are ready to do battle with the gathering darkness.
Like the Grimms before them, their quest is to rescue stories and bring them home. An attempt to save the world!
On 12th and 13th September Black Coffee Theatre, in a co-production with Northern Stage, Alnwick Playhouse and ARC Stockton, presents Found. When Mark finds an unconscious man lying on the beach, he does what any other person would do; he stops to help. He has no idea that in doing so he is starting a chain of events that will seemingly ruin his life.
From 4th to 12th October Northern Stage joins with Unlimited Theatre for The Noise. A remote island in the Southern Ocean. A noise that never stops. A massive iceberg in the harbour. A body in the water. And an 18-year old girl who is the only one asking questions.
Visiting productions include:
- Paines Plough in Jumper for Goalposts (1 – 5 Oct)
- Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Particle Velocity (10 – 11 Oct)
- The Secret Agent, a Theatre O and Young Vic co-production (16 – 19 Oct)
