In need of refurbishment: the Belgrade Theatre

Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is asking audiences and supporters to Play Your Part and help raise £600,000 towards a £4.8 million target for a major redevelopment.

The project will be split into three phases. The first will be the refurbishment of the main-stage auditorium and foyers which are part of the original 1958 building. Phase two will link up the ground-floor café and the first-floor Burbidge Room as a place to eat and socialise. Phase three will be the transformation of the nearby Jaguar building into a creative talent hub.

Belgrade head of development Helen Hotchkiss said, “this is an incredibly exciting time to live and work in Coventry and we’re particularly proud of all the community, education and talent development work we do at the Belgrade.

“With Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture less than two years away, the 61-year-old theatre is in need of some refurbishment to be a sparkling gem for 2021 and beyond.”

Ways to Play Your Part can be found on the Belgrade Theatre web site.
