A new comedy from Coventry writer/director Nick Walker, Vampomime, which features a theatre company run entirely by vampires, is the alternative 2015 Christmas show for grown-ups in Coventry Belgrade’s B2 auditorium.

The plot features a production of Beauty and the Beast which is beset by practical problems—the vampires cannot go onto the stage until they have been invited in and the glare of the lighting is painful on their eyes. They are also distracted by an uncontrollable bloodlust for virgins, although they say they do not anticipate that being a big problem with Coventry audiences.

Coventry-based actress Katy Stephens returns to the Belgrade for the third consecutive Christmas. She plays Karen. Last year she was in the theatre’s Christmas show Oh No It Isn’t!, also written by Nick Walker.

Her work for the Royal Shakespeare Company includes an appearance in Mark Ravenhill’s adaptation of Voltaire’s Candide and the role of Tamora in Titus Andronicus, both in 2013.

She will be joined by Miriam Edwards who plays Beauty, Nick Trow (Vlad) and Graeme Rose (Alan).

Vampomime runs from Saturday 5 December until Saturday 2 January.
