Rehearsed: readings will take place at various locations in Coventry and Warwickshire

Coventry’s Belgrade is to run for a third year Unplugged: a week-long performance programme offering audiences the chance to see rehearsed readings from the theatre’s autumn season of home-produced drama.

This year, the Belgrade will be leaving its home and visiting several locations across Coventry and Warwickshire, including Kenilworth Castle, Nicholas Chamberlaine Almshouses in Bedworth, Coombe Abbey Hotel, The Warwickshire Wildlife Trust’s Parkridge Centre in Brueton Park, Solihull, The Merchants Inn in Rugby, Coventry’s new creative quarter Fargo Village and the newly refurbished Old Grammar School, Coventry.

Audiences can look forward to rehearsed readings from a selection of productions such as the UK première of Crush, a new musical comedy by Maureen Chadwick, The Silver Sword based on the children’s novel by Ian Serraillier, the 2015 alternative B2 Christmas show Vampomime written by Coventry playwright Nick Walker and Moliere’s comedy The Sisterhood which will be produced in 2016.

Belgrade artistic director Hamish Glen said, “these events have been devised to offer people the chance to come and hear excerpts from our forthcoming autumn season in the form of rehearsed readings in interesting and inspiring settings.

“They aren’t fully realised productions with big sets and lighting; they’re stripped back, ‘unplugged’ readings that I’m putting together with a group of talented professional actors to give you a unique taste of what’s in store at the Belgrade throughout the rest of the year.

“I’m really looking forward to showcasing some of the highlights of our autumn season and to introducing audiences both old and new to what promises to be a very exciting programme of drama.”

Unplugged takes place from Saturday 20 June until Saturday 27 June. Further details are available at the Belgrade web site.
