Bern and Betsy Budd

American Bern Budd, winner of a 2006 best of the fest award at the Buxton Fringe Festival for his portrayal of Mark Twain in Hannibal Years, will be returning in 2014 with his wife Betsy in an adaptation of Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve.

In Budd’s adaptation from Twain's musings, the audience comes to understand how Adam and Eve actually felt about each other and their surroundings, all in Mark Twain's inimitable laconic and humorous style.

Over the course of more than 40 years, Adam and Eve discover wonder, excitement, frustration, fire, how to tame a brontosaurus and what it means to build a lasting, loving relationship. The Budds have been married for 36 years, so they know about relationships.

“Returning to Buxton and performing in The Pauper’s Pit under The Old Hall Hotel in what will be its final year as a venue will be an honour,” says Budd.

“We were there for the first year of Underground Venues, with Betsy running sound and lights for my shows, and now we'll be there on stage together for the finale.”

They will perform The Diaries of Adam and Eve from Thursday until Saturday, 10 to 12 July, at 2:30PM, Sunday 13 July at 7:45PM, Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17 until Saturday 19 July at 2:30PM, Sunday 20 July at 7:45PM and Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July at 2:30PM.
