Opera North's Death In Venice

One hundred years since the birth of Benjamin Britten, Opera North celebrates the most successful 20th century British opera composer with revivals of Peter Grimes and A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the new Death in Venice at The Lowry in Salford next week.

The multi-award winning Peter Grimes is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, director of the 2008 smash hit film Mamma Mia!. Welsh tenor Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts reprises his performance in the title role as the isolated and at times, violent fisherman. Giselle Allen returns as Ellen Orford.

Martin Duncan (The Adventures of Pinocchio) revives his warm and witty 2008 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, conducted by Stuart Stratford. Several of the original cast members return to reprise their roles.

The acclaimed production of Death in Venice for Aldeburgh Music and the Bregenz Festival (2007) from Yoshi Oida has toured internationally, including to Lyon, Toronto and Prague. It comes to Opera North for the first time.
