In 2016, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse will stage a new adaptation of Madame Bovary with Peepolykus at the Everyman, while at the Playhouse there will be a major revival of Frank McGuinness’s Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme.
The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary! runs from February 5 to 27 before being presented at Bristol Old Vic, Southampton Nuffield and Royal & Derngate, Northampton.
At the Playhouse, from June 8 to 25, Jeremy Herrin directs Observe the Sons.
On July 1 1916, the 36th (Ulster) Division took part in one of the bloodiest battles in human history: the Battle of the Somme. A hundred years later, this modern classic is presented in a major co-production with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin—where the play debuted in 1985—and Citizens Theatre, Glasgow and Headlong.
