Parliament beckons for Sic'nis

Representatives of Birmingham venue The Drum, “the UK’s premier black-led arts centre”, have been invited to the Houses of Parliament to promote Birmingham’s cultural diversity and creative excellence.

Gisela Stuart, Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, suggested the visit as part of a drive to raise awareness of the creative industries in Birmingham. Two of the city’s hip-hop artists, Madflow and Sic’nis, have also been invited. They will visit Parliament on Tuesday (22 October).

“We’re proud to be supporting the innovative creative works being produced in Birmingham,” said Martin Cox, The Drum’s programme manager.

“As England’s second city, Birmingham has a huge amount to offer in terms of cultural and artistic innovation, and it’s important that the work of such talented young artists gains wider attention and greater support.”

Sic’nis added, “As a female MC, I’m working with The Drum to attract more young women to the art form and redefine the music in mainstream media.

“Going to Parliament is a real privilege and an opportunity to showcase the creative innovations coming out of Birmingham.”
