4 Squares Weekender which takes place on 6 and 7 September

The full programme has been released for 4 Squares Weekender, a free outdoor celebration marking the opening of the new Library of Birmingham.

The city’s central squares—Oozells in Brindleyplace, Centenary, Chamberlain and Victoria—will be transformed with theatre, dance, art, circus and “a dose of the unexpected”.

4 Squares Weekender starts at 9:30PM on Friday 6 September with As the World Tipped by Wired Aerial Theatre, produced by Birmingham Hippodrome.

The show is described as a “real-life disaster movie with breathtaking staging, film and fearless aerial performance”. It will be repeated at 9PM on Saturday 7 September.

The focus in Oozells Square in Brindleyplace is family fun. There will be dance from Sampad and contemporary circus from Pif-Paf, courtesy of Mac Birmingham.

In Centenary Square, Birmingham REP will provide impromptu surprise performances and food-inspired stories from four converted caravans.

Birmingham Royal Ballet and DanceXchange will take over the Town Hall with dance performances.

In Victoria Square, Nofit State Circus will entertain with impromptu stunts, professional performances and taster workshops.

Dorothy Wilson, artistic director and chief executive of Mac Birmingham, said, “4 Squares Weekender is a unique showcase for Birmingham’s cultural sector.

“No other city enjoys the depth, breadth and vibrancy of culture as we do here—and that will be on show, free of charge, across four squares in one weekend.”
