Three plays have won a competition and will be presented at Birmingham’s Blue Orange Theatre in April.

The contest was organised by the Blue Orange Writers group which is celebrating its first birthday.

The plays had to showcase an all-women cast for the competition, dubbed A Female Perspective.

The winning plays are A Stab in the Dark by Richard Price; Michael Edan’s Black Hole and Cradle Days by Henry Nolan.

In A Stab in the Dark a young woman’s boyfriend has been stabbed and killed. There is no motive and no other witnesses apart from the girlfriend.

Black Hole examines how much suffering a friendship can endure. Eighteen months after five people die in an explosion of bullets in a high-school cafe a woman asks for what seems impossible to give.

In Cradle Days a woman is going into a home. Her family help out with clearing her house and uncover forgotten secrets and heartache.

The plays will be performed at the Blue Orange Theatre, Great Hampton Street, Birmingham from Thursday until Saturday, 10 until 12 April.
