Newly appointed chair of the board of Birmingham Rep Andy Street CBE has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours.

He took over as chair in November 2024. He was mayor of the West Midlands from 2017 to 2024 and before that was managing director of retailer John Lewis. He has always been a vocal advocate for arts and culture in Birmingham. He is knighted for his public service.

Birmingham Rep chief executive Rachael Thomas commented, “we’re thrilled for Andy and on behalf of the entire Rep team I offer him our deepest congratulations on this well-deserved honour.

“Andy's contribution to the civic and cultural life of our city and wider region is unparalleled and he’s consistently championed the arts and secured additional funding for the sector. He’s a passionate advocate for the work of all the region's cultural riches.”
