A “breath-taking” new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale of adventure and friendship Treasure Island is the Christmas 2016 offering at Birmingham REP.
The theatre’s artistic director Roxana Silbert said, “we’re pulling out all the theatrical stops to create a show for the whole family. We want to see the auditorium packed full of sparkling eyes, and imaginations that are ready to set sail with us on a thrilling journey of adventure to faraway lands.
“A trip to the theatre is as much a part of many families’ festivities as fairy lights, so director Phillip Breen and the cast are working around the clock to make sure that Treasure Island will be a show they’ll remember forever.”
Bryony Lavery, whose adaptation of A Christmas Carol played at the REP in 2013, has come up with this new version.
Leading the ensemble cast of actor-musicians are Sarah Middleton as Jim, Suzanne Nixon as Captain Flint and Michael Hodgson as Long John Silver.
The cast also includes Anni Domingo (Grandma Hawkins), Thomas Pickles (Ben Gunn), Sian Howard (Dr Livesey), Barnaby Southgate (Job Anderson), Greg Coulson (Lucky Mickey), Ru Hamilton (Grey), Pete Ashmore (Badger), Nicholas Prasad (Israel Hands), Andrea Davy (Red Ruth), Andrew Langtree (Blind Pew), Tonderai Munyevv (Squire Trelawney), Dave Fishley (Billy Bones), Daniel Norford (Black Dog), Dan Poole (Killigrew) and Kaitlin Howard (Joan the Goat).
The set is designed by Mark Bailey, lighting is by Tina MacHugh, with sound design by Andrea Cox and music by Dyfan Jones. John Ross is movement director, fight director is Renny Krupinski and puppets are by Craig Denstone.
Treasure Island runs at The Rep from Friday 25 November until 7 January.
