Rising to the challenge: the Hippodrome Education Network

Donors have raise more than £26,000 to help Birmingham Hippodrome to expand its work with 5,000 young people in Birmingham and the West Midlands in 2021.

The theatre joined the Big Give Christmas Challenge—the UK's biggest online match-funding campaign which doubles donations for only seven days. A target of £20,000 was set.

The funds will support the Hippodrome Education Network (HEN) programme which enables young people from areas of low social economic engagement to take part in workshops, digital masterclasses and careers sessions.

Judith Greenburgh, the Hippodrome’s head of fundraising and development, said, "we’re thrilled to have exceeded our target thanks to the donations from more than 150 individuals.

“Over the next year we’ll be able to support more than 5,000 young people through HEN which is wonderful news.”

Zaylie-Dawn Wilson, the theatre’s head of learning and participation, added, "keeping creativity in the curriculum has been more important than ever this year for young people. Your donations will enable us to continue supporting young people's wellbeing and confidence, and help them to imagine a bright future after the pandemic.”
