VIP event: Shall I Kill Mama will help to raised money for The Drum's refurbishment

Birmingham venue The Drum, “the UK’s premier intercultural arts centre”, is to hold a VIP event to raise money for a £4.8m refurbishment programme.

The Drum is this year celebrating its 20th anniversary. Its Raising the Roof campaign aims to build a balcony and enlarge the auditorium, increasing seating from 350 to 478 and standing from 750 to 1,000.

All spaces will be refurbished; mechanical and electrical equipment will be updated; audio visual equipment will be improved; and a lift will be installed.

The VIP event will include a performance of Trevor Thomas’s Shall I Kill Mama, a comic drama which tells the story of a difficult relationship between a mother and her son.

It features Lavern Archer as Mama and Michael Manash as Bunta. Anton Phillips directs. Shall I Kill Mama will be performed on Saturday 12 April.
