Touring across the Black Country: Wild

Black Country Touring is to stage a new show, Wild, which has been inspired by experiences of people living across the Black Country.

With an ensemble cast of four, a community choir and live music, the production examines the idea of “wild” and what it means to Black Country people.

Written by Rochi Rampal, Wild takes stories from residents, community workers and even a mountain rescue team. The company has taken “tales of childhood adventures and camping on the edge of shadowy woods, encounters with tornadoes, the roaring sea and the untamed wilderness within our minds and imaginations, weaving them into a full-length piece of theatre”.

Frances Land, co-artistic director of Black Country Touring, commented, “Wild is Black Country Touring’s first full-length touring production since Life’s A Beach in 2018. Over the past few years, we’ve produced theatre in different ways and in different places across the Black Country: short shows in shops, on high streets and in community gardens, so it’s a change to be back making theatre for a full-length production. As ever, we take our inspiration from the people living and working in the area, taking their words and experiences and weaving them into new performances.”

Wild will tour to Brierley Hill Civic on Wednesday 16 October, Wednesbury Library on Thursday 17 October, Glasshouse Arts Centre, Stourbridge on Friday 18 October, Gatis Community Space, Wolverhampton on Saturday 19 October, Dorothy Parkes Centre, Smethwick on Sunday 20 October, Bromwich Hall, West Bromwich on Wednesday 23 October, Central Library, West Bromwich on Thursday 24 October and Aaina Community Hub, Walsall on Saturday 26 October.
