The Red Room

David Hughes Dance’s The Red Room is coming to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre for one horror-filled night on Sunday April 21—the only performance of the show in the UK.

Barricaded in his mansion, a prince entertains a party of debauched revellers whilst the world outside teeters on the brink of plague-ridden apocalypse. But, as long as the wine flows and the musicians play what reason have they to care?

Accompanied by a dramatic original score, which draws on classical Baroque influences from Handel, Telemann and Vivaldi, the collaboration between acclaimed dancer Hughes (choreography) and award-winning theatre maker Al Seed (direction) is a contemporary and visually shocking interpretation of Edgar Allan Poe’s 19th century classic tale The Masque of the Red Death.

The performers weave dance traditions—ballet, breakdance, contemporary, Bharatanatyam and physical theatre—to create a horror show for the stage.
