To coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike of 1984, Touring Consortium Theatre Company presents Brassed Off starring John McArdle at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from April 15-19.
Adapted by Paul Allen and based on the screenplay by Mark Herman, it is set in 1992 around Grimley Colliery, Yorkshire, when the pit is threatened with closure. The play also charts the simultaneous demise of the colliery brass band, as the miners find themselves torn between redundancy packages and picket lines.
Each performance will also feature live on-stage music by Haydock Brass Band, with such impassioned pieces as Rodrigo’s "Concierto de Aranjuez" and "Jerusalem".
