Shed: Exploded View

Phoebe Eclair-Powell's Shed: Exploded View, winner of the 2019 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, will run at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester from 9 February to 2 March.

Three couples. Thirty years. Mothers and daughters. Lovers, partners, husbands and wives. Babies, teenagers, birthdays, holidays, honeymoons, fireworks, near-misses, rain. This is a play about all of it. The smallest tremble. A smashed glass. The ripping apart of space and time. An explosion.

Directed by Atri Banerjee, the cast will feature Jason Hughes (DC Ben Jones in Midsomer Murders, ITV; Warren Jones in This Life, World Productions) and Lizzy Watts in the roles of Frank and Naomi, with Norah Lopez Holden (who returns to the Exchange following her lead roles in Our Town and The Almighty Sometimes) as their daughter Abi. Wil Johnson (who returns to the Exchange following his role as Kent in King Lear) and Hayley Carmichael play the roles of Tony and Lil. Completing the cast is Michael Workéyè (This Is Going To Hurt, BBC; Playdate, Disney+; My Lady Jane, Garden Studios; House Of Ife, Bush Theatre) as Mark who, alongside Lizzy, makes his Royal Exchange debut.

Designer is Naomi Dawson, lighting designer is Bethany Gupwell, composer is Carmel Smickersgill, sound designer is Max Pappenheim, movement director is Sung Im Her, Birkbeck assistant director is Amara Heyland, casting director is Nadine Rennie CDG, dramatherapist is Wabriya King and dramaturg is Suzanne Bell.
