Buxton Festival Fringe hands out awards

Top production: The Melting Shop’s On Behalf of the People

The Melting Shop from Chesterfield won the award for best production with On Behalf of the People, a family drama set in a mining community, at Buxton Festival Fringe.

At the awards ceremony held in the Rotunda in the Derbyshire town’s Pavilion Gardens, the John Beecher Memorial Award for original, challenging work with high production values went to the “extraordinary and wonderful coming-of-age comedy / drama” Janet by Helenandjohn.

Jack Brosnan picked up the male actor award for Sea Wall by Nuneaton’s Sudden Impulse Theatre Company and Debbie Cannon was presented with the female actor accolade for Green Knight. The new writing award went to the musical Guy from Prestwich-based leoe&hyde.

Young drama talent was recognised with Nottingham’s Shadow Syndicate winning the best youth production for Extremism which featured Isabel Milner who was awarded best youth actor.
