An annual festival in Stoke-on-Trent is urging playwrights to enter a 10- to 12-minute piece which will be staged in July.

The Bertarelli Foundation Creative Minds Festival will be held at the Regent Theatre and is offering awards of £350 to the authors of the three plays selected.

The theme is Local and Global, with particular reference to Stoke and Staffordshire.

Entrants may decide to cover areas such as what it means to live in Stoke or Staffordshire, and what the region offers the world.

The piece “should ask those acting in it, directing it and seeing it performed to look at current as well as historical issues within the region and, through debate, offer the opportunity to make sense of what is going on today as well as reflect upon what has happened in years gone by”.

Submissions should be no longer than six pages and should take about ten minutes to read. It can have up to 30 parts but only a maximum of ten speaking parts.

Playwrights may submit as many pieces as they wish to [email protected]. There is no charge for submitting a piece.

A decision on the winning entries will be made by Friday 26 April. The winners will be announced on the Creative Minds Festival web site.

The festival will be staged from 2 until 6 July.
