Coventry and Warwickshire community performers are being given the chance to take showcase their talents at a new outdoor festival during UK City of Culture 2021.
Amateur theatre societies, youth groups and dance organisations are invited to apply to take part in Generate, which will involve Coventry City of Culture Trust working with Coventry’s Albany Theatre on the family-friendly festival. Performances will respond to the theme of 'freedom' and will celebrate the diversity of the city.
Kevin Shaw, chief executive and artistic director of the Albany, said, “the festival offers a great opportunity for groups to bring an already established performance or to create something new especially for the festival to an outdoor setting, perhaps for the first time.”
The festival will take place across weekends in August, running from midday until dusk. Performances are free to attend.
Grants of up to £1,000 will be provided to successful community and amateur arts groups selected for the festival. Anyone interested can meet the team behind the festival at application surgeries on Tuesday 11 May between 6 and 7PM on Zoom and on Thursday 20 May from 6 until 7PM in person at the Albany. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 26 May.
Tickets can be booked at the Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 web site.
