Arts Council England has awarded Nottingham Playhouse almost £1 million from its capital investment programme.

The programme gives buildings and equipment to organisations so that they can deliver their work as well as helping them to become more sustainable.

In addition to the £996,000 grant the Playhouse and Nottingham City Council have signed up to a new partnership which will support the theatre’s capital work.

Stephanie Sirr, chief executive of the Playhouse, said, “These funds will increase opportunities for performance and participation in a welcoming, sustainable and creative setting.”

The Playhouse will now be able to spend more money on home-grown productions and investing in its audience.

The theatre needs to raise a further £75,000 to carry out essential work including installing 156 solar panels to make the theatre more energy-efficient; replacing 50-year-old light fittings to reduce energy consumption; and installing new door lobbies to reduce heat loss.
