Hitting the right notes: Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

The first major stage production of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, based on the best-selling novel by Louis de Bernières, will go on a 2019 UK tour—25 years after the book was published.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is a love story set on the Greek island of Cephalonia. It follows the lives of Dr Iannis, his beautiful, strong-willed daughter Pelagia and Italian Captain Antonio Corelli during the Italian and German occupation of the island during World War II.

The stage play will be adapted by Rona Munro who has collaborated with Ian Rankin on a new play Rebus: Long Shadows which is currently running at Birmingham REP before going on tour.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin will be directed by Melly Still, who is directing the UK tour of Bryony Lavery’s adaptation of Alice Sebold’s book The Lovely Bones.

The play will preview at Curve, Leicester from 13 until 20 April 2019. It will then tour to Rose Theatre Kingston, Theatre Royal Bath, Birmingham REP, King’s Theatre Edinburgh and Glasgow Theatre Royal until 29 June 2019.
