Donna Berlin, James Bradshaw, Sara Crowe, Ian Hallard, Andrew Horton and Rose Shalloo have been cast in Hallard’s The Way Old Friends Do which will have its world première at Birmingham Rep in 2023.
Mark Gatiss will direct this “tender and laugh-out-loud funny” play which will also feature the voices of Miriam Margolyes and Paul O’Grady.
Set in 1988, the play features two school-friends who tentatively come out to each other: one as gay, the other as an ABBA fan. Nearly 30 years later, a chance meeting sets them on a new path and they decide to form the world’s first ABBA tribute band—in drag.
The Way Old Friends Do will run at Birmingham Rep from Friday 17 February until Saturday 4 March. It will then tour the UK and have its London première at Park Theatre.
